Former Piston swingman Ronald Dupree was dealt to the Utah Flash in a sign
and trade deal Tuesday.
January 20, Raw Feed: The Utah Flash acquired forward Ronald Dupree today
from the Tulsa 66ers in a sign and trade deal for center Steven Hill.
In 18 games for the 66ers this season Dupree is averaging 36.7 minutes, 19.9
points and 6.6 rebounds. In six games in January he is averaging 39.8
minutes, 25.7 points, 10.3 rebounds and 5.7 assists while shooting .531
(51-96) from the floor. In his last two games, Dupree is averaging 30.5
points and 15.5 boards.
The 27-year-old LSU product from Biloxi, Miss. has played in 154 NBA games
with the Chicago Bulls, Detroit Pistons, Minnesota Timberwolves and Seattle
Sonics, averaging 11.3 minutes, 3.6 points and 2.2 rebounds. He also played
in 14 NBA Playoff games with the Pistons in 2004-05.
The Pistons traded Dupree to the Minnesota Timberwolves for a future second
round draft pick. That pick is due in the 2009 draft and is looking to be a
pretty good second-round pick. The Pistons also have the Raptors second-round
pick from the Carlos Delfino trade(the Raptors also owe the Pistons another
second-round pick in 2011). Unfortunately, the 2009 draft class is looking
less remarkable than usual.
Speaking of the Raptors, the Pistons play the team from Toronto Wednesday
night at the Palace, which will be Richard Hamilton's first game coming off
the bench. Hamilton reacted to the news in the Free Press Tuesday.
January 20, Detroit Free Press: Hamilton said he didn't see the move as a
demotion. "That's [not] how I look at it: Just a sacrifice sometimes you got
to make in order to win games," said Hamilton, who last came off the bench in
2001-02, his third and final season in Washington. "Bottom line, I want to
try to get back to the promised land."
In fact, he took the news in such good spirits, he was able to laugh about it.
"I got to get my heat packs and I got to tell (strength coach) Arnie (Kander)
to bring a bike out there to try to stay warm," he joked. "It ain't no more
easing into games. By the time I get out there, guys are already going to be
warmed up."
With Curry telling the media that the new lineup is set for the rest of the
year, Piston fans are hoping it brings the kind of success the Pistons had
during Rip's absence, plus.
